Between the Meledrio, Noce and Sasso Rosso

Dimaro lies at the foot of an alluvial fan between the two waterways, the Meledrio and the Noce. The village is also located at the entrance to Val Meledrio. The well-known peaks of Sasso Rosso surround and protect the valley basin where Dimaro and Carciato are situated. The location between the waterways and at the entrance to Val Meledrio gives the landscape a clear spatial framework.

Churches, forges and historic buildings

On the way from Dimaro town centre to Carciato stands the east-facing Church of San Lorenzo. It certainly existed as early as 1264 and was rebuilt in the 15th century. In connection with the Fucina di Dimaro, 28 hammer mills operated in Dimaro in the 16th century. Most of them were located in the Meledrio valley, in an area known as “Fosinace”, the old forges.

Historic sights can also be found in the townscape itself: the Palazzo del Dazio still stands in the historic centre of Dimaro. On the edge of the village is the Segheria Veneziana di Dimaro, whose existence can be traced back at least to the beginning of the 19th century. The Palazzo del Dazio and the Segheria Veneziana di Dimaro are therefore located in different parts of the village.

The Val Meledrio Ecomuseum and its stations

The Val Meledrio Ecomuseum is an open-air museum in the municipal area of Dimaro Folgarida and in Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. Under the open sky, it conveys the valley’s historical and cultural experiences. The tour begins in the village of Dimaro at the local church. The ecomuseum also includes guided tours of Val Meledrio, during which the old hammer and the Venetian sawmill are put into operation. These tours are scheduled for Tuesday and Friday afternoons in July and August. The starting point at the church and the guided tours of Val Meledrio connect the village of Dimaro with the history of the valley.

Active days in summer and winter

In summer, trekking, cycling and rafting are possible in Dimaro; in winter, skiing, snowshoeing and ski mountaineering are offered. The Rafting Center in Dimaro offers rafting and hydrospeed. Another way to enjoy exercise in the valley is the 35-kilometre cycle and walking path in Val di Sole. It runs along the Noce River and leads through the meadow plain to the village of Dimaro. The gentle gradient shapes the route just as much as its course along the river and through the meadow plain. The railway line from Malè to Marilleva 900

On 4 May 2003, the approximately ten-kilometre-long new railway line from Malè to Marilleva 900 was inaugurated, with new stations in Malè and Dimaro.
