Cavareno: landscape and local history

Cavareno lies at an altitude of around 1,000 metres, among meadows, forests, and cultivated terraces. When choosing a holiday apartment in Cavareno, you can consider whether the Charta della Regola, the loop trail in Parco Arte Pineta, or the Sentiero del Brocon should shape your stay.

Charter, churches, and farming heritage

The oldest surviving copy of the Charta della Regola of Cavareno was written down and translated into Italian in 1632. The Festa della Charta della Regola was conceived to revive the rural culture associated with the charter through traditional handicrafts and foods.

The parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Cavareno was built in the late 19th century and preserves a Stations of the Cross cycle by the local artist Mattia Lampi. The Chiesetta SS. Fabiano e Sebastiano in Cavareno has medieval origins.

Castel de Campi features a 14th-century floor plan, projecting turrets on stone corbels, twin windows, and a stone portal bearing the coat of arms of the de Zinis family. The Casa Contadina di Cavareno is located in one of the oldest residential blocks in the historic town centre. It displays rooms, furnishings, work tools, as well as religious objects, conveying an image of a traditional Nones farmstead.

Trails for different kinds of days

The loop trail through Parco Arte Pineta is around 1.2 kilometres long, mostly flat, and has a short ascent in the middle. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and can be walked in all seasons.

The loop trail through Parco Arte Pineta di Cavareno features land-art installations made from natural materials. It also includes a section with trenches from the First World War.

The Sentiero del Brocon is a moderately difficult Nordic walking route at the foot of Monte Roen. The trail is 3.5 kilometres long and has an elevation difference of 73 metres. A wooded rise above Cavareno’s sports field on the Sentiero del Brocon offers views of Monte Roen and the Brenta Group.

The Anello dal centro di Cavareno ai Laghetti dei Masi di Ruffrè route connects Cavareno and Ruffrè via a well-maintained forest trail with the ponds of Masi di Ruffrè.

Getting there and choosing a holiday apartment

For travel by train, Trento is the key station on the Brenner railway line. From there, the Trento–Malè–Mezzana local railway runs to Dermulo. Regional buses then operate towards Passo Mendola, stopping in Cavareno.
