The Hirzer cable cars take visitors directly from Saltusio to the Klammeben mountain station at an altitude of 1,980 metres.

The Saltaus Waalweg begins at the Torgglerhof next to the Passer and leads through apple orchards and woodland to Planta Castle in Obermais. As an easy walking trail, it takes around two hours. The easy, largely level Passer embankment path from Saltusio to Merano also takes around two hours. The 19-kilometre Passeiertal cycle path leads from Merano to St. Leonhard in Passeier and passes Saltusio. The Passeier Schildhöfe Trail leads back to Saltusio via the Passerweg.

Water experiences and mountain adventures

When rafting in Saltusio, participants travel in small boats with a trained guide along the unspoilt Passer. Tours with different levels of difficulty include family tours and tours for adults. During canyoning on the Passer near Saltusio, the route leads through natural pools and rock formations; rappelling down waterfalls is also part of the experience. Participants are accompanied by a mountain and canyoning guide. The large paragliding launch site above Klammeben can be reached via the Hirzer cable car and a subsequent 15-minute walk.

History, church and BunCor

The Schildhof Saltauserhof was first mentioned in 1230. During the Tyrolean Rebellion, the battlement-crowned Saltauserhof served as a hiding place for Andreas Hofer; it was once also a customs station of the Counts of Tyrol. The new Church of St Michael was consecrated in 2006. A translucent wall illuminates its chancel, while two bells in the tower display reliefs of the Archangel Michael. BunCor is located in a Second World War bunker in Saltusio. It contains the artist’s heart as well as the hearts of invited artists, writers and critics who took part in Schönweger’s project by invitation. BunCor’s bunkers are modelled on the four chambers of the human heart and refer to the significance of the symbol “heart” in Tyrolean culture.
