Holiday apartment in Deutschnofen: Hiking, Culture and Farmers’ Market
Deutschnofen combines the “Kirchsteig” adventure trail with nature-related themes and interactive stations.
Hiking Trails with Nature and Views
On the “Kirchsteig” adventure trail, you can learn about flora and fauna as well as agriculture and forestry in a playful way. A listening island, a telescope, a wildlife memory game and a water wheel make the topics tangible at specific stations. The listening island and telescope engage hearing and sight; the wildlife memory game and water wheel add their own playful features on site.
The panoramic hike begins in the center of Nova Ponente and leads across open fields with beautiful views to the little Church of St. Helena. The chapel impresses with its rich fresco decoration and is considered the principal work of the Bolzano School of Painting around 1400. In its basic structure, it is Romanesque; it probably dates back to the 12th century. The hike and the building thus combine an experience of the landscape with a specific art-historical destination. At the destination, the little church connects the open fields along the route with fresco decoration and Romanesque features.
Churches, Towers and Art
In Nova Ponente, the cultural trail continues to the Nova Ponente Territory Museum, which is housed in a Romanesque tower from the 13th century. The parish church of Nova Ponente is a Gothic building from the 15th century with impressive sandstone cladding. It was completed in 1498 and consecrated on September 16 of the same year. Panels from the parish church were also part of a famous altarpiece that the Austrian master Hans von Judenburg created around 1420 for the parish church of Bolzano. The Romanesque museum tower and the Gothic parish church also differ in their architectural form and materials. The sandstone cladding shapes the external appearance of the Gothic building.
The Chapel of Sant’Agata stands on a hill isolated from the rest of the village and surrounded by forest. From the “Nova Ponente, Chiesa” bus stop, it can be reached on foot in about 45 minutes via Via Castello Thurn, Path No. 5 and Path A. The approximate time of 45 minutes refers to the walk from this bus stop and makes the route easy to plan as a separate time block. Those walking to Sant’Agata have a clear starting point at the bus stop and a fixed destination at the chapel.
Cycling Activities and Regional Products
