When choosing a holiday apartment in Welschnofen, you can plan around the experiences that are intended to shape your stay: trails to Lake Carezza, mountain landscapes around Rosengarten, regional markets or insights into the history of the Eggental valley. Welschnofen combines specific hiking routes with nature, tradition and events. This allows active days and cultural discoveries to be arranged at different paces.
Lake Carezza and nature around Welschnofen
Lake Carezza is a special natural area in the surrounding region. It can reach up to 300 metres in length, 140 metres in width and around 22 metres in depth. Underground springs from the Latemar feed the lake; its size and depth therefore depend greatly on the season and weather conditions. Circular and lakeside hiking trails at Lake Carezza offer views of Latemar and Rosengarten. The lake is also a fully protected natural monument. For planning your day, this means you can regard the lake as a nature destination while also including trails of different durations.
Hikes with different stages
A hike from Welschnofen to Lake Carezza leads via the Stadl Alm and offers views of Rosengarten and Latemar. A multi-day route leads from Welschnofen/Nova Levante through the Niger Pass and the surrounding mountain pastures, through the massifs of Schlern and Rosengarten, and returns to Welschnofen/Nova Levante. The two routes therefore differ clearly in scope: in addition to a single connection to the lake, there is a multi-day mountain route with a return to Welschnofen.
The King Laurin Tour and mountain trails
The King Laurin Tour begins at the Welschnofen cable car and leads via the Hirzelsteig trail and lift-assisted mountain paths to Lake Carezza. The Welschnofen Zentrum stop can be reached with bus routes 180, 184, 186 and 187; the ascent then continues by cable car. From Welschnofen, the journey to Lake Carezza can also begin by cableway. The onward route uses the Tschein chairlift and hiking trails no. 16 and 6, crossing a suspension bridge.
Rosengarten: hiking, climbing and World Heritage
Rosengarten has hiking trails such as the Hirzelsteig to the Christomannos Monument and the Rosengarten circuit. Alpine climbing and via ferratas are available for alpine-oriented activities. Rosengarten near Welschnofen belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. The range of mountain days therefore extends from hiking trails with exceptional viewpoints to more demanding alpine activities.
Market, Alm festival and regional way of life
From May to October, a farmers’ market takes place every Wednesday morning in Welschnofen. It offers fresh vegetables, homemade jams and other regional products. Another established tradition is the “King Laurin” Alm festival, which takes place annually as a sociable hiking day in the mountains. The associations of Welschnofen organise it on the mountain meadows at the foot of Rosengarten. The mountain huts offer regional food and drinks as well as music, games and entertainment.
History between the Eggental valley and Frommerhof
The road through the Eggental valley was built in 1860 and created a connection to Bolzano that opened up new economic development opportunities in Welschnofen in forestry, mountaineering and tourism. Frommerhof preserves a private collection about the lives of mountain farmers in the 19th and 20th centuries. When choosing your holiday apartment in Welschnofen according to your daily plans, you can therefore set different priorities between mountain trails and nature destinations, the farmers’ market, the Alm festival and historical topics.
