The Stone Mile in Olang is a varied themed and walking trail with informative stations. The route is mostly flat or has only gentle inclines; wide, easily accessible sections are suitable for prams and wheelchairs. This makes it possible to enjoy a relaxing day filled with exercise and small discoveries. The informative stations provide designated stopping points for short breaks. The gentle inclines can also be taken into account when planning a slower-paced day.

A family-friendly walking path from Niederolang to Mitterolang leads through Mühlbach, is suitable for prams and has a playground along the way. In Mitterolang, the public children’s playground offers slides, seesaws and opportunities to build sandcastles. There is also a drinking-water fountain at Floriani Square, which is freely and free of charge accessible.

Cycling through valleys and landscapes

The 105-kilometre Puster Valley cycle path runs through Mitterolang. The “From Olang to Staller Sattel” tour begins in the centre of Mitterolang and leads through the entire Antholz Valley, past villages, meadows and forests, to Antholz Lake. At 105 kilometres, the cycle path makes for an extensive cycling tour.

History, crafts and traditions

The Peter Sigmayr monument stands in the centre of Mitterolang. It commemorates Olang’s hero of the years 1809 and 1810. Saint Giles is invoked by shepherds and hunters and revered as the patron saint of livestock and against the plague. This veneration is part of the religious tradition.

In the area around Valdaora di Mezzo, the Lipper sawmill is located in Oberolang; it is an easily accessible Venetian sawmill dating from the 19th century. It is regarded as the last surviving Venetian sawmill and as a unique testimony to the history of the Puster Valley’s timber industry. The sawmill is located in Oberolang, whereas the monument stands in the centre of Mitterolang.

The traditional festival in Valdaora di Mezzo takes place on the weekend after the feast of Saint Giles and usually falls on the first weekend of September.
