Lana on the Adige combines easy trails, impressive nature and important cultural sites. Walk along the Waalweg through the cultural landscape

The Brandis Waalweg connects Lana and Niederlana on an easy walk of around 2.5 kilometres. The trail leads through chestnut groves, vineyards and apple orchards and offers views of Lana and the surrounding valley landscape. The Brandis Waterfall lies at the end of the Brandis Waalweg.

Natural experience near Lana

From the Gaulwiese, a well-secured path leads over suspension bridges and past a waterfall, continuing into the Gaul Gorge. The gorge is only a few minutes' walk from the centre of Lana, at the foot of the castle hill of Braunsberg Castle. This experience therefore focuses equally on lively sections with bridges and water and on the distinctive landscape immediately around Lana.

Art and churches in Lana

On the Lana Sculpture Walk Trail, hikers and art enthusiasts can experience how artists from around the world have interpreted the landscape along the route.

The parish church of the Assumption of Mary is an important late Gothic sacred building in South Tyrol and can be visited as part of guided tours. Group tours can be booked on request. The church contains the Schnatterpeck Altar, which is over 14 metres high, comprises 33 figures and is considered the largest winged altar in the Alps.

St. Margaret's Church in Niederlana can also be visited as part of guided tours. Visiting hours may vary depending on the season and organisational circumstances. Braunsberg Castle was built in the early 13th century, is privately owned and is not open to visitors. These different access arrangements make clear that cultural destinations in Lana can be combined with different forms of sightseeing.

Winter ice skating

During the winter months, from the end of October to the beginning of March, the Gaul ice rink offers ice skating on artificial ice. Access has been designed to be largely barrier-free.

Walking to Vigiljoch

The Church of St. Vigilius am Joch is accessible exclusively on foot via hiking trails, as the entire Vigiljoch area is car-free. Walking is therefore an integral part of the experience when visiting it.
