Holiday apartment in Vigone: culture, nature and local discoveries
Accommodation in Vigone
Vigone between art, nature and history
Vigone reveals its distinctive features in a varied mix of churches, archives, contemporary art, landscapes and regional traditions. Cultural discoveries stand alongside the Via delle Risorgive, the Risorgiva Angiale and the groups of trees in the Bosco dei Tetti Gironi.
Churches, theatre and historical collections
The Chiesa di Santa Caterina is a three-aisled Gothic-Lombard church built in the 1460s. It also houses an interesting collection of paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. The Chiesa di Santa Maria del Borgo complements this cultural picture as a neoclassical church built in 1832 based on a design by the engineer Talucchi.
The Chiesa di San Bernardino also focuses attention on the town’s art history: it contains ten frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries attributed to G. B. Pozzo. The Teatro Baudi di Selve provides another historical highlight. It is a typical 19th-century Italian theatre designed primarily for melodrama.
The Biblioteca Luisia is located in the 17th-century Palazzo Luisia. Adults and children can register free of charge to use the reading room and borrowing service. The Archivio Storico del Comune di Vigone comprises 1,373 archival units from the period between 1285 and 1950. This also gives younger visitors tangible points of connection when families want to discover history not only through buildings, but also through books and original documents.
Contemporary art and walks
Panchine d'Artista promotes contemporary art in Vigone. One specific work is the artist’s bench “Il numero d’oro”, located in the Giardini Bessone on Via Ospedale. Such individual art sites create a modern contrast to the churches and historical collections and can add an unusual perspective to the cultural tour.
For active days, the Via delle Risorgive offers its own route. It is also known as the Airasca-Moretta cycle path, passes through Vigone and connects Airasca with Moretta. The route runs along the former railway grounds of the Airasca-Saluzzo regional line and can also be used for walks. In the southern part of the municipality of Vigone, the Risorgiva Angiale is formed by the confluence of numerous fontanili, including Santa Maria and Biarone. A few large oaks and hornbeams still grow in the Bosco dei Tetti Gironi. Thus, in addition to the route itself, waterways and preserved groups of trees are available for observing nature.
Events and a local flavour
Panchine d’Artista has accompanied the Fiera del Mais & Cavalli since 2011 and took place in its 14th edition. The 26th edition of the Fiera Nazionale Mais & Cavalli took place. In culinary terms, La Vigolosa belongs to Vigone: the local cake is prepared with corn and apples and could be tasted after a guided tour of the town.
