The Reggia on a grand scale
The visitor route through the Reggia di Venaria extends for almost 2,000 metres between the lower level and the piano nobile. One particularly impressive space is the Galleria Grande: it is around 80 metres long, 12 metres wide and approximately 15 metres high at the centre of its vault. These dimensions make the tour an experience in which it is not only the individual rooms that matter, but also the impact of the residence as a whole.
Art, splendour and exceptional individual pieces
The collection of the Reggia di Venaria includes more than 500 works. These include paintings, sculptures, tapestries, furniture, clocks and musical instruments. An extraordinary exhibit is the Bucintoro dei Savoia, the only original surviving example of its kind in the world.
The historic entrance through the Borgo Antico
In the 17th century, the Borgo Antico formed the ceremonial entrance to the Sala di Diana of the Reggia. As a result, the historic district is not merely an area in front of the residence, but part of the history of the royal complex. Its architecture and sightline give the route to the residence a character of its own and connect the townscape and cultural history within a compact area.
Gardens between order and landscape
The Potager Royal is located in the lower park of the Reggia’s gardens. It covers around 10 hectares and complements the representative architecture with a distinctly more landscape-oriented setting. The La Mandria Regional Nature Park covers 6,570 hectares. It preserves surviving lowland oak forests interspersed with meadows and bodies of water.
La Mandria and the Castello della Mandria
La Mandria Nature Park offers routes for horseback riding and carriage rides. The Castello della Mandria lies amid the nature park’s 3,000 hectares of meadows and forests. It includes Royal Apartments rich in art and history and is regarded as the preferred residence of the first King of Italy.
Getting there and choosing accommodation
The Reggia di Venaria is approximately 10 kilometres from Turin and can be reached by train, bus, car, bicycle or plane. The SFM4, SFM6 and SFM7 railway lines serve the Reggia di Venaria. From the Reggia di Venaria stop, it is about 500 metres on foot through the Borgo Antico to the ticket office. When choosing accommodation, the key question is therefore whether your stay will be shaped more by the rooms of the Reggia, the gardens or the nature experiences in La Mandria.
