Valgioie offers you a variety of discoveries among scenic trails, woodland landscapes and remarkable traces of the past. A holiday apartment in Valgioie may be a suitable option if you would like to plan your stay around hikes, cultural sites and nature-based experiences. For planning purposes, it is helpful to consider each activity according to its starting point, duration and character.

Hiking with views and clearly defined waypoints

The Modoprato–Colle Braida route is 4,300 m long and takes approximately 2 hours. It has difficulty grade E and can be completed on foot or by mountain bike. Its starting point is at the tourist information point in Borgata Modoprato. At the very first equipped rest area, there is already a viewpoint overlooking the lower Susa Valley and the Avigliana Lakes.

Another option is the Sacra-Natura route starting from Valgioie. You should allow at least half a day for it in order to get to know the opposite side of the Sacra in Val Sangone. The path leads through sunny, south-facing forests. Along the way, you will come across the “Fontana delle Grosse”, whose characteristic water is known for its diuretic properties.

Forest, mountains and marked landscapes

The walk to Monte Ciabergia also combines exercise with far-reaching views: from there, you can see the Orsiera-Rocciavrè and Monte Rocciamelone. A wayside shrine built in the 1950s points the way to the protected “Ugo Campagna” woodland area. At Pian Aschiero, a wayside shrine of the same name marks the watershed between the Giaveno-Selvaggio and Coazze directions.

These different types of trails give you the opportunity to shape your stay according to your interests: the Modoprato–Colle Braida route combines a manageable duration with a defined starting point and a viewpoint, while the Sacra-Natura routes require at least half a day.

History and local features along the way

There is an old ice house in Bagagera. The ice stored inside was later sold. A communal oven, which you can visit, is also located there. Thus, a stay in Valgioie brings together not only experiences of the landscape but also vivid evidence of everyday life in the past.

The “Sentiero dei Morti” was formerly used to transport the deceased from Presa delle Rose to the cemetery in Tortorello. Its current route begins at the last house when leaving Presa delle Rose and continues a short distance beyond the hamlet of Bagagera. On the slope of Vernetta and at Colle di Castiglione, you can also see several artistically arranged monolithic rocks, which are considered evidence of Druidic settlements in the area.

Valgioie as a starting point for your planning

For travel by train, Avigliana railway station is 14 km away. It is served by the SFM3 Turin–Susa/Bardonecchia line. This information is just as useful for practical orientation as the established starting points of the trails.
