Castello di Pavone and medieval architectural history
In 1870, Castello di Pavone was expropriated by the Italian state. In 1885, Alfredo d’Andrade bought the castle for 7,000 lire and subsequently began the restoration work. The keep of Castello di Pavone was probably built in the 11th century by the bishops of Ivrea. The Ricetto was built on the same hill as the castle, to its west.
Pavone’s religious history includes the Chiesa della Madonna delle Grazie, which dates back to the Middle Ages and became a pilgrimage destination over time. Behind the altar, an 18th-century altarpiece depicting the Virgin Mary bears witness to its heyday. The Chiesa di San Rocco is a national monument because of its elegant Baroque lines inside and its curved exterior forms.

The historic Pavone Medievale nature trail begins at the Torre Porta. It leads through centuries-old forests and small wetlands, past large rocks smoothed by glaciers, hemispherical rock hollows and medieval watchtowers that form part of the castle walls.
The Paraj Auta trails first pass through well-tended vineyards and then through deciduous forests on the southern slope of Truc Bunfurnera, reaching the turnoff to the Sète d’la Madona, a glacial mill. From there, a viewpoint offers a view of the entire western pre-Alpine arc of Piedmont. For cycling enthusiasts, the proposed Via Campestre is also noteworthy: it is intended to connect the Paraj Auta trails in Pavone Canavese with previously surveyed trails on the right lateral moraine of the Ivrea Moraine Amphitheatre in the areas of San Martino Canavese and Scarmagno.
Carnevale and regional products
The Carnevale di Pavone normally takes place on the Sunday after the Carnival of Ivrea. The festival includes the Castellani, pipers, marching bands, allegorical floats, horse riders, walking masqueraders and carriages. For 2025, Salame della rosa, Salampatata, Toma di capra and Tomino di capra are associated with the De.Co. designation of the municipality of Pavone Canavese.
