Colleretto Giacosa between landscape and local history

Colleretto Giacosa is part of the Ivrea Moraine Amphitheatre (Anfiteatro Morenico di Ivrea, AMI). In the higher-lying part of the town, a panoramic viewing terrace provides a setting for vineyards, orderly groves, orchards, historic vines and vineyard huts. When choosing a holiday apartment in Colleretto Giacosa, landscape impressions and cultural discoveries therefore come together, without requiring you to commit to just one type of holiday day.

Churches, chapels and distinctive buildings

A central cultural landmark is the parish church of Invenzione di Santa Croce. From 1772 onwards, it was built according to a design by the architect Sartoris on the site of an earlier church that was originally dedicated to Saint Peter. Access is possible via steps and a ramp; the ramp allows people with reduced mobility to enter. In the built-up town centre, glacial verrou rock ridges also stand out as rising rock formations, adding an unusual geological feature to the townscape.

The Chapel of Santa Liberata is regarded as a symbol of the town. The bell tower also contains several historical clues: it houses two large bells, one of which was installed in 1929 and the other in 1951. The second bell was recast after breaking. The bell tower is probably at least partly the oldest building in Colleretto Giacosa.

Following in the footsteps of Giuseppe Giacosa

Giuseppe Giacosa is buried in a family area in the northern part of the cemetery of Colleretto Giacosa. When he was buried in 1906, a bronze bas-relief depicting the Muse of Comedy was installed. Casa Giacosa „La grande Arca“ became a meeting place for a cultural circle around Giuseppe Giacosa. The Giacosa Festival is dedicated to the playwright, poet and librettist and gives his name an additional cultural dimension in the town.

Trails for different day plans

Colleretto Giacosa has a network of seven independently walkable trails. Information boards, web information, QR codes and trail markers help with orientation along these routes. Some local trails are connected to routes in neighbouring municipalities and can be completed on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. For families with different interests, this range offers a practical approach to planning: you can choose between a walk, a more active route or an exploration on two or four wheels, without everyone having to follow the same daily rhythm.

Winegrowing and recurring events

Colleretto Giacosa lies in the production zone for Canavese wines with the protected designation of origin DOC. The vineyards are also located in an area considered suitable for producing Erbaluce wines. A holiday apartment in Colleretto Giacosa is therefore particularly well suited to a travel plan in which local history, landscape and regional wine themes all have a place side by side. The cultural calendar includes Settembre Giacosiano, which takes place every year with installations and events honouring Giuseppe Giacosa and the region.

Choose the right focus for your accommodation

When choosing your accommodation, you can determine the focus you want for your time together: would you like to explore cultural sites and the history of Giuseppe Giacosa, experience the trails flexibly on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, or place the landscape and winegrowing at the centre of your stay? Colleretto Giacosa offers several clearly recognisable themes for this. A holiday apartment or holiday house thus becomes a starting point for an individually planned stay, whose character you determine through your interests and daily programme.
