Andezeno between Historic Centre and Cultural Heritage
Andezeno can be discovered through its historic centre, distinctive farmsteads, churches and trails. The Chiocciola and Historic Townscapes
The Chiocciola di Andezeno is the original town centre, situated on the hill. Small lanes form the historic centre there, characterised by fortification walls dating from the 18th century. Via Abate Villa leads into the Chiocciola to a notable viewpoint.
Individual farmsteads also give Andezeno a distinctive historical character. Cascina Fruttera is a typical linear farmstead with a closed courtyard and dates from the 17th or 18th century. It was chosen as a summer residence by Joseph De Maistre. Cascina Cesole is an 18th-century farmstead with a closed courtyard. It includes a granary, a stable, a farmhouse and a Baroque chapel dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario.
The rural past also includes traces of water management. The irrigation system used a section of the Rio Santena with a gradient, known as the Cascate di Cesole. Near Cascina Cesole, among blackberry bushes, are the remains of the enclosing walls and water wheel of an old water mill that regulated the flow from the nearby Rio Santena to irrigate the surrounding fields.
Churches with Medieval and Baroque Traces
The Chiesa Cimiteriale di San Giorgio dates from the 12th century and belongs to the Romanesque parish church tradition of Monferrato. Roman bricks and marble were reused in its outer wall; crossed tails of two dolphins can be seen on a funerary stele. The parish church of San Giorgio was built between 1753 and 1759 and consecrated in 1764. It houses the relics and the body of Saint Justina. Those interested in architecture, religious history and unusual details will find two clearly different places to visit here.
Museo Balbiano and the Rural Past
The Museo Balbiano contains a collection of objects from the farming life of times gone by, with more than 2,000 items. The access routes to the museum are accessible to people with disabilities. Reservations are required for guided tours and tastings.

The Marentino–Andezeno circular trail reaches the Romanesque church of San Giorgio in Andezeno. Another tour idea is the cycling route between Montaldo, Pavarolo and Andezeno: from Montaldo, it reaches Andezeno’s historic centre, laid out in a spiral, via a green-lined path. The different routes help you choose between a trail with a church as its destination and a cycling tour to the historic centre.
