Holiday apartment in Cantalupo Ligure – gorges, trails and history

Cantalupo Ligure combines landscapes, historic religious buildings and trails leading to a variety of destinations. The Strette di Pertuso form a natural boundary between Borghetto di Borbera and Cantalupo Ligure. Other highlights include Castello di Borgo Adorno, the churches in Zebedassi and Prato, and several Sentieri.

History between the castle and churches

Castello di Borgo Adorno was a fief of the Genoese Spinola family until 1518. Towards the end of the 17th century, the old Castello was damaged by a landslide. The Marchese Luigi Botta Adorno then had part of it demolished and built the aristocratic palace that stands today. The site's architectural history thus spans the period of feudal rule through to the present-day aristocratic palace.

The religious buildings also provide specific points of reference for cultural discoveries. The Chiesa di Sant'Andrea in Zebedassi dates from the mid-16th century and was elevated to parish church status in 1629. In Prato, the church is dedicated to Saints Peter and Sylvester. Near the road from Cantalupo Ligure town centre to Località Prato and by the cemetery, there are also the ruins of the former Chiesa di San Giulio, dating from the 14th century.

The Strette di Pertuso

The Strette di Pertuso stretch for 4 km between Persi and Pertuso. The canyon, approximately 100 m deep and 10 m wide, is of Oligocene origin and formed between 37 and 26 million years ago. The Borbera stream flows through it along its entire length. The landscape is defined by the narrow canyon, the continuous stream and its geologically dated formation.

Along the SP 140, on the riverbed side of the Borbera, there are several access paths to the Strette di Pertuso. Access to Lago Cantalupo Ligure requires an Assolaghi card for everyone entering the facility.

Trails with different starting points

Sentiero 260 leads from Pertuso to the parish church of Roccaforte Ligure, is 7.23 km long and takes around four hours. At 7.23 kilometres and approximately four hours in duration, Sentiero 260 provides a specific timeframe for planning a day trip.

Sentiero 210 starts in the town of Cantalupo Ligure and ends at Monte Giarolo. Sentiero 209 passes through the exposed conglomerate area of Costa Camisola, reaches its summit at 847 m above sea level and descends to the turn-off for Rivarossa. The three trails therefore differ in their starting points, destinations and landscape sections.

Practical information

On the Cantalupo Ligure–Monte Giarolo trail, Piazza Europa is on the right at kilometre 17.200, where you can park your car.
