Renaissance history and historic buildings

The Collegiata di Sant'Ubaldo was built around 1571 over an older church, based on a design by Filippo Terzi. Filippo Terzi also completely transformed Barchi's old castle into a small ideal Renaissance town. The church and castle therefore represent two distinct examples of Filippo Terzi's work in Barchi.

Rolling hills, plants and nature reserve

Around Barchi, paths along old country roads lead into the surrounding landscape. Barchi has a gently rolling landscape characterized by wild plants, downy oaks, hornbeams and silvery olive trees. The natural setting also includes the “il Colle” wildlife and hunting reserve: it was established to reintroduce species and to monitor and contain hunting. The reserve complements the plant life with an explicitly defined purpose of species protection and hunting control.

Paths, marshland and distant views

Along the road beside Barchi's cemetery, an equipped path runs alongside a wild, marshy landscape; until the 1980s, there was an artificial lake there. A walk along Barchi's ramparts opens up views across the surrounding rolling hills to the horizon. On clear days, the panorama from Barchi extends from San Marino to Conero and from Catria to the Adriatic. Along the paths, the view alternates between the surrounding landscape, marshland and the horizon. The path beside the cemetery and the ramparts thus offer two different spatial perspectives in Barchi.

Museums, Banda Grossi and the pottery tradition

The Museo Orci e Orciai e della Banda Grossi recounts, through historical panels, the adventures and mishaps of the brigand band Banda Grossi, which was active in the countryside in the 19th century. The “Girando attorno a un filo” section presents materials, techniques and typical products from the old pottery tradition of Vergineto, San Bartolo and Villa del Monte. For those interested in culture, Barchi offers the Collegiata di Sant'Ubaldo and the old castle; the pottery tradition is connected with Vergineto, San Bartolo and Villa del Monte.

Museums, mountains, beaches and market

There are three museums in the area around Barchi: the Fondazione Villa Del Bali', the Museo Nori de' Nobili and the Museo della Civiltà Contadina, Grotte, Arte Sacra. The Bastione Sant'Anna, also a museum, lies in the wider regional area around Barchi. Monte Raggio and Monte San Bartolo are mountains in the area around Barchi. Boiani and Spiaggia di Metauro are beaches in the wider regional area.

The Fiera di Sant'Ubaldo includes a traditional market for handicrafts and typical products and takes place on the third Sunday in May.
