Vararo offers you a holiday where activity, village history and regional flavours come together. Your choice of holiday apartment can be guided by what you want to shape your days: a circular trail, historic village views, nature observation or locally produced cheese. This leaves room for different interests without reducing the village to just one travel idea.

Holiday apartment in Vararo for trails and discoveries

For an active day plan, a circular trail leads from Vararo, situated at an altitude of 725 m, initially towards Monte Crocetta (1117 m). It then continues past the paragliding launch area to Monte Nudo (1235 m). The walking time is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. The clear route and approximate duration provide a concrete framework if hiking is to have a fixed place in your day plan. The different elevations can also be taken into account when planning this tour for your day.

Routes with different landscape highlights

The Pizzoni di Laveno route offers a different perspective on the landscape. It leads to Passo Barbè, regarded as a panoramic ridge point. Along the route, the rose garden of Vararo is worth a visit.

The meadows of Val Buseggia are home to several occurrences of the rare orchid Ophrys apifera. If you plan nature observation as part of your trip, this rare species provides a precise focus alongside the mountain trails. The plant populations and the routes offer different highlights for days spent outdoors.

San Bernardo and the history of Vararo

The church of San Bernardo brings together several historical traces of Vararo. In 1755, it was still a branch church of Cittiglio; by 1769, it had already been established as a parish church. It was rebuilt in 1796 after the older chapel had fallen into a poor and dilapidated condition. Above the portal, a fresco of Saint Bernard dating approximately from 1870 is visible. The short bell tower houses the bells from the demolished church of San Giulio in Cittiglio.

Cort di Ratt in Vararo also conveys an old-world atmosphere. The historic centre largely preserves its original mountain-village architecture. The village centre thus remains a concrete point of reference for the history of the mountain village in Vararo.

Regional cheese from the mountain hamlet

Capre e Cavoli is part of the local cheese culture. Founded in 2002, the company is located in the hollow of Vararo, a mountain hamlet of Cittiglio situated at an altitude of 750 m, and produces and sells fresh and matured cheeses made exclusively from processed raw goat's milk. In Vararo, Capre e Cavoli produces and sells, among other products, Bacio di Vararo and Caciotta del Sasso del Ferro. For those interested in regional foods, Capre e Cavoli is a specific business in Cittiglio's mountain hamlet with its own types of cheese.
