Mountain Trails and Nature Around Casargo

The Faggio Centenario di Piancone is a monumental beech tree measuring 28 metres in height, more than 9 metres in circumference and over 600 years old. It can be reached from Località Faedo via a path that leads through Ronco into Val Marcia. Monte Muggio also makes a striking impression: the summit cross stands on the 1,799-metre-high peak, reached by the Anello del Monte Muggio circular route via the panoramic cross. Sant'Ulderico can be reached via a hiking trail from Alpe Giumello. The Percorso dei faggi begins at the car park in Indovero, a hamlet of Casargo, and follows the ridge to Monte Muggio.

Churches and Romanesque Traces

The Chiesa di San Martino is mentioned in the Liber Notitiae Sanctorum Mediolani of 1266. It was originally built as a church near an 11th-century military tower. Just outside Somadino, Santa Margherita stands on the rocky spur of Sasso della Guardia. It is considered the oldest religious building in Valsassina and preserves Romanesque forms throughout the entire structure. Santa Margherita also contains the only Romanesque fresco preserved in Valsassina. San Bernardino began in the 15th century as a single-nave oratory and houses frescoes by Giovan Maria Tagliaferri. The main altar of San Bernardino dates from 1824.

Alpe Giumello: Winter, Trails and Local Cuisine

Alpe Giumello offers downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and sledding. Mountain huts and agriturismi serve typical dishes and local products there. The Sentiero dei mirtilli is a circular route through several areas with wild black bilberries and different types of vegetation found in the region. The Indovero–Alpe Giumello mountain bike route is an easy trail lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes and begins in Indovero, a hamlet of Casargo.

Opening hours were scheduled for Wednesdays from 2 to 6 p.m. and from Fridays to Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
