About 500 metres north of Predappio Alta lies the Solfatara, a sulphur mine. In connection with the sulphur lake, temperatures there remain at 12 °C year-round, with high humidity. The Solfatara Mine is used as a tourist attraction for visits and public events; during the Christmas season, it features a mechanical nativity scene. This adds a distinctive landscape and geological element to the historic town centre.
