On May 16, 1867, the painter Iványi-Grünwald Béla was born in Som, in Somogy County. In the area of Som stands the withered trunk of the Patkófa, a magnificent specimen of Scots pine approximately 160 to 200 years old. Following a vote by the readers of Somogyi Hírlap, the Patkófa was voted one of the seven wonders of Somogy County in 2019. It was named after the Tóth brothers, Patkó Bandi and Patkó Pista, who became known as bandits.

Culture
In 2018, Iványi-Grünwald Béla was included in the value register of Somogy County. A memorial room dedicated to him is located in Som's community center. The Iványi-Grünwald Béla Alkotótábor takes place annually in Som. The Somi Süti Festival has been held annually since 2005.
Som's Roman Catholic church was built in the Baroque style in 1757. Its main façade features a distinctive wooden tower.

The slopes, orchards, rows of vines, and hidden cellars surrounding Som invite visitors to take walks. Csorda-hegy hill is located in the vicinity of Som. The hills of Horog-tető, Packa, and Tömlöc-hegy are also located nearby.
