Gourock on the Firth of Clyde: Waterfront, Trails and Park
Accommodation in Gourock
Gourock is a small coastal town on a bend of the Firth of Clyde, stretching along the water. The waterfront trail opens up views of boats and ferries; there is also a heated outdoor pool, a large park and cycling links in different directions. This combination is useful when planning your trip: you can focus on a stretch of waterfront, a day in the park, swimming or a bike ride. When choosing a holiday rental, it is worth first considering which of these aspects makes Gourock the right holiday destination for you.
Out and about by the water
From Gourock, a roughly 6.5-kilometre flat waterfront trail leads via Lunderston Bay to Inverkip. Along the River Clyde, there are views of boats and ferries. Its approximate length and flat route give you concrete points to consider when planning your day; conditions can vary, so you should check them locally. This lets you treat the waterfront trail as an activity in its own right without assuming a fixed walking time.
Cycle routes in two directions
The NCR75 runs through the centre of Gourock and heads east via Kilmacolm and Paisley to North Lanarkshire. The NCR753 runs north from Gourock to Inverkip. The routes therefore differ mainly in their direction and the destinations listed: one heads east via several towns, while the other goes north to Inverkip. If you are planning a bike ride, you can use this information to choose your destination. Check signage and conditions locally.
Outdoor pool with history and views of the Clyde
Gourock’s heated outdoor pool by the water was built in 1909. Gourock Outdoor Pool has a heated saltwater pool with a water temperature of 29°C and views of the Clyde Estuary. Access for people with disabilities has also been improved. Swimming offers a different perspective on the water from the waterfront trail: here, you look out at the estuary from the pool, while on the trail you walk alongside the River Clyde.
Gourock Park: history and a range of areas
The land around Gourock House was gifted to the residents as Darroch Park and later renamed Gourock Park. Today, the park has an animal area and a large play area. There is also a walled garden with a variety of plants and shrubs. For a visit with children, the play area and animal area are two different places to explore; the garden adds another point of interest. Performances and other acts take place in the amphitheatre. If a particular date is important for your visit, check the event dates.
Ferry connections and sailing
Gourock has two ferry terminals with connections to Argyll. If you are planning a ferry trip, check the operators and timetables before travelling. Sailing is also among the local activities: the Royal Gourock Yacht Club offers sailors and like-minded people a year-round calendar of social and training events. Its members have access to sailing opportunities and social facilities in a historic clubhouse by the water. The club also offers moorings with access to a dinghy; confirm availability directly with the club.
Choose a holiday rental to suit your plans
When looking for a holiday rental in Gourock, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: the waterfront trail, cycling links, outdoor pool, park or a ferry trip to Argyll. This lets you compare different ideas for your trip rather than assuming there is only one way to explore Gourock.
