Culture and History

Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Beidenfleth can then continue their search for accommodation. The Beidenfleth Camera Museum is housed in the old schoolhouse and presents a chronological journey through the history and development of cameras. On display are camera series from German manufacturers, rare individual pieces, accessories, historic glass negatives, advertising items and spring-wound film cameras. The collection covers around 26,500 different camera models from manufacturers around the world. On display are 5,800 individual pieces from a total collection of 8,700 cameras.

St. Nicolai Church in Beidenfleth was first documented in 1325. Its foundations date from the 12th century or, at the latest, the 13th century. The Baroque altar was created in 1636/37 by Hamburg sculptor Hein Baxmann. The bronze baptismal font from 1340 is the oldest work of art in the church. According to local tradition, the freestanding bell tower was first erected in 1557, restored several times and completely renewed in 1860.

Landscape and Village Character

The village character includes visible drainage ditches and drainage canals, many of which are arranged at right angles. They date back to drainage works begun by Dutch settlers in the 12th century.

The Stör and Connections

A ferry has crossed the Stör near Beidenfleth since 1620. It connects the Wilster Marsh and the Kremper Marsh and is also used by cyclists. On the fifth stage of the Monk's Way, the Else cable ferry connects Beidenfleth and Bahrenfleth across the Stör.

Cycling and Access to the Water

The Stör is incorporated into several local walking and recreational activities. The Beidenfleth canoe launch provides access to the Stör near the ferry. Near Beidenfleth, the Else ferry offers a short crossing directly over the river along the route. The 46-kilometre Störtörn 1 cycling tour follows the Stör dike to Beidenfleth. It connects the river landscape of the Stör with dike paths and open marshland.

The Störterrassen rest area at the ferry in Beidenfleth is located directly on the Stör and offers a view of the water and the Else ferry.
