A 7.06-kilometre loop trail of approximately three hours’ duration and moderate difficulty begins and ends at the Pfaffendorf Vereinshaus bus stop. It leads through the Nadelöhr to the Pfaffenstein and then around the Quirl.

The Pfaffendorf loop combines the Barbarine and the viewpoints and rock formations of the Pfaffenstein with caves at the Quirl and a detour to the two-storey Diebskeller Cave. It is described as 28 metres long, 8 metres wide and up to 4 metres high.

Village Character

Pfaffendorf retains a rural architectural character with numerous farmsteads, mostly three-sided farmhouses with half-timbered upper storeys, as well as a stone cross beside the village stream.

History

The Pfaffenstein associated with Pfaffendorf preserves evidence of a Bronze Age settlement, including an approximately 200-metre-long defensive rampart and archaeological finds connected with the Lusatian culture.

Diebskeller is located near Pfaffendorf, as is Gohrisch.

Hohnstein Castle is located in the area surrounding Pfaffendorf. The castle ruins of the town of Wehlen and Hirniskretzschen are also located there.
