Culture
In the village centre are the church square and the distinctive parish church of St. Antonius. Parish traditions include a fair in January, held after the patronal festival. A parish festival is also celebrated at the end of August or the beginning of September.
History
An earlier church in Oberlahr was already in existence around 1200. Around 1848, it was demolished to make room for a larger new building.
The Catholic Parish Church of St. Antonius Oberlahr was built from 1874 to 1876. It contains a small crypt known as the lower church. Also preserved are a kneeling bench from 1695 and a baptismal font from the 13th century.
The “Lahrer Herrlichkeit” primary school is also part of the local history: Its foundation stone was laid on 7 May 1861, and the building was completed in 1862.
Paths and Nature
The marked sound trail route runs over meadows and through the forest from Rott to Oberlahr. The sound trail is suitable for an all-terrain stroller.
The Wiedweg 04 trail runs through the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park, alternating between river meadows and wooded hills. At the Oberlahr end, the trail reaches half-timbered houses and the parish church of St. Antonius on the village square.
Free parking is available at the Westerwald-Treff Hotel in Oberlahr. The Bürdenbach-Bruch bus stop is located directly on the Wiedweg trail.
