History

The present-day municipality of Trebur was formed in 1977 from the districts of Astheim, Geinsheim, Hessenaue and Trebur. Astheim, Geinsheim and Trebur were first documented in records from the second half of the eighth or the early ninth century, while Hessenaue was founded in 1937.

In 1076, opposing princes gathered in Trebur during the Investiture Controversy and called on Henry IV to reach an understanding with Pope Gregory.

In 1479, Trebur became part of the Landgraviate of Hesse through the Katzenelnbogen inheritance.

In 1077, Rudolf of Rheinfelden visited the royal palace in Trebur; no other German king visited the palace after him.

Since the late Middle Ages, Trebur, Nauheim and Mörfelden formed the Dreidorfmark. The municipalities jointly administered and used the large communal forest near Mörfelden until this arrangement was dissolved in 1731.
