Soier See: Circular Trail, Moorland Trail and Activities by the Water
The circular trail around Soier See links a barefoot trail, a moorland nature trail and a bird-watching trail. Different themes come together along the route: sensory experiences, knowledge about the moorland and opportunities to observe birdlife. On the eastern edge of the lake, the moorland trail leads to three information stations, which explain how the moorland formed and why it is important to the region.
The lake’s landscape also has a distinctive colour: humic substances from the surrounding moorland turn its water brown. Soier See is in a protected landscape area where sensitive and rare animal and plant species are found. If you would like to combine time by the water with a visit to the southern shore, you will find a bathing area, a kiosk and boat hire there.
Moorland and Trails Through Nature
The Ach-Runde Bad Bayersoien offers another perspective on the landscape. It leads through forests, peatlands, and moorland and moss-covered areas with distinctive flora and fauna; sparkling streams accompany the route. Its natural landscape differs from the themed stations by the lake: here, the focus is on the different landscape types and the plants and animals found along the route.
When planning your holiday, you can consider whether to focus your nature experiences around the lake or also include the forest- and moorland-shaped areas of the Ach-Runde.
Museum and Traces of Village History
The museum in the Bierlinghaus explores several aspects of local history. Its collection on contemporary popular religious devotion includes hand-coloured copper engravings, reverse-glass paintings, convent handicrafts, pilgrimage souvenirs and sculptures. It also features equipment from historical craft guilds based in Bad Bayersoien, as well as materials relating to peat extraction in the Moos. Religious art and crafts are thus presented alongside the subject of the moorland economy.
The museum also tells the story of the lives and living conditions of the Bierlings, a merchant family from Bayersoien. If you would rather explore village history outdoors, you can take the “Chapels and Sights” circular trail. It goes around Bad Bayersoien, passing numerous small chapels, crosses and monuments. The starting point and finish are at the Tourist Information Office, “In der Brandstatt”.
The Bad Bayersoien War Memorial Chapel is among the landmarks with its own story. It was built in 1925 to commemorate the 120 members of the municipality who fell in the First World War. From the chapel, there are views of Soier See, the Hörnle and the surrounding landscape. Another memorial is the Rottstein on Dorfstraße, Dorfstr. 41, in front of “Haus Dodl”: it commemorates the Rott privilege granted by Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian in 1332.
