Trautskirchen: Nature Trails and Franconian Architectural Heritage

Trautskirchen combines trails through the forest and the Zenn Valley with a remarkable history of Franconian architecture. Hiking Trails and Nature in the Zenn Valley

Trautskirchen has 45 km of marked hiking trails, which connect to a regional network of hiking and cycling routes. The larger mixed forest around the town is crisscrossed by paths and is ideal for long walks. If you would like to discover a range of nature-related topics on a circular route, the Trautskirchen Nature Trail offers just that: it is about 3 km long and runs from the eastern edge of town through the Herrschaftswald forest to the northwest of Trautskirchen. The nature trail begins at the hiking car park by the bathing pond near the shooting club. Its approximate length and circular route make it easy to plan as a separate outing during your stay. The Zenn Valley Hiking Trail also winds through the valley landscape, connecting Neuhof an der Zenn, Trautskirchen and Obernzenn. Within the municipality, the Zenn Valley is part of the 110,000 ha Franconian Heights Nature Park and forms a particularly picturesque corner.

Franconian History and Half-Timbered Architecture

Trautskirchen Baroque Palace was built in 1708 by Ludwig von Seckendorff zu Obernzenn und Meuselwitz as an imposing three-winged Baroque palace. Another historic landmark is St. Laurentius, a choir-tower church: the Gothic church stands on the site of a former fortified cemetery. Its interior furnishings date from the 17th and 18th centuries; its features also include magnificent stucco panels. Alongside its nature trails, Trautskirchen therefore offers points of interest for anyone interested in historic architecture and church interiors.

The small Hans Böckler House contains an exhibition on the trade union movement since industrialisation. The museum is housed in Hans Böckler’s former birthplace. In the village of Buch stands the Buchermühle, a stately manor house and former grain and saw mill that is no longer in operation. In Fröschendorf, a half-timbered house combining living quarters and a stable recalls the building style of the 16th or 17th century. The Zenn Valley Cycle Route passes directly by the house. This makes it possible to combine local history and cycling when exploring the building, without requiring a joint tour that takes in additional sights.

Local leisure facilities include a playground next to the town hall, on the site of a former sports ground. It has numerous play structures, a large sand area, a beach volleyball court and a ball court.
