Between Moors, Meadows and Alpine Views
The Höllfilz Trail takes you through a different sequence of landscapes: it leads through moors and meadows, past fields, small bodies of water and hamlets. The views from there extend to the Alpine range. The trail starts in the centre of Antdorf and, on the return leg, passes the Church of the Assumption of Mary in Frauenrain before leading back to Antdorf. Along the way, you can take in both the open landscape and a historic church site.
When planning your days, you can choose between these two trails according to their different highlights. The Betbichl Circular Trail combines religious landmarks with views of the Alpine massif; the Höllfilz Trail passes through moorland and meadows and by small bodies of water. Cycling and hiking trails also run through Antdorf’s meadows and forests. The Osterseen lakes are 3 km from Antdorf and can be reached by bicycle or on foot. This gives you a choice of different themes for your outings, without needing to combine every destination into a single route.
Churches and Chapels with a History of Their Own
The parish church of “St. Peter and Paul” stands on a rise above the village. The Wessobrunn master builder Caspar Feichtmayr built it between 1688 and 1694; it was most recently restored in 2002 and 2003. These dates give the building a clear historical context. The Kirnberg Chapel features a ceiling painting created by Munich painter Franz Seraph Kirzinger in 1794. It is the largest chapel in Antdorf and stands on a rise south of the village.
Frauenrain offers its own cultural highlight, too. The Church of the Assumption of Mary was already there around 1440 and has long been a place of Marian devotion. Its massive walls display Romanesque style. The square tower, built of tuff blocks and rubble stone, has a pitched roof.
Village Life and Special Dates
The raising of a maypole is part of local living traditions and takes place in Antdorf every three years. The Maypole Run is held on the following Sunday. If you’re interested in local traditions, you can take this schedule into account when planning your trip, without assuming that the festival is held every year.
On the Sunday after Corpus Christi, following the festive Mass, the community processes through Antdorf in a Eucharistic procession. The houses along the procession route are decorated with cloths, flags, flowers, candles and images of saints. These distinctive decorations make the route through the village a special part of its religious traditions. Antdorf is part of the Pfaffenwinkel Tourism Association.
A Base for Different Discoveries

The Höllfilz Trail starts in the centre of the village; the described way to get there is by train to Weilheim, followed by a bus to Antdorf. Carriage rides are also among the leisure activities available in Antdorf.
