Circular trails and special nature themes
A network of well-marked circular hiking trails leads through the remote valleys of Breitenbach, Dörnbach and Waldbach. The Three Valleys Trail runs from Watterbach through Dörnbach, via the hamlet of Breitenbach with its little church, to Ottorfszell. The sequence of places gives the route a clear orientation. Check local route information before setting out.
Themed areas on Kirchzell’s municipal territory include “Experience the Forest” near Wildenberg Castle and “Creeping and Crawling” in the Zeibertsklinge. The paved bee discovery trail is also easy to walk with a stroller; the themed areas explore other nature topics. At the end of the trail, visitors can watch bees build and care for their colony in a display hive. As you would expect, how clearly the bees can be seen may vary.
For cyclists, the well-marked AM1 mountain bike circuit follows challenging trails, including through Kirchzell Forest. This offers a different sporting focus from hiking the circular trails. Check local route conditions before your ride.
Town hall, farmhouse and typewriters
The historic town hall on Kirchzell’s market square dates from around 1500. In the district of Preunschen stands the Watterbach House: dating from 1475, it is an over-500-year-old Odenwald farmhouse built using the rare Firstständerbau construction method. The two buildings offer contrasting highlights: a town hall on the market square on the one hand, and a farmhouse with a rare construction style in the district on the other.
Another discovery is the Betzwieser Typewriter Museum. Visitors are allowed to try out some of the typewriters. If this hands-on activity is important to your plans, it is best to confirm the details before your visit.
Culture in Miltenberg
Miltenberg also offers its own cultural attractions. The Museum Stadt presents Miltenberg’s town and regional history in three historic half-timbered houses on Miltenberg’s market square, the Schnatterloch. The Miltenberg District Culture Weeks are also held regularly: they take place every year from mid-September, with a varied program for all ages. The program includes concerts of classical and contemporary music, as well as jazz and electronic music events.
