Miltenberg combines striking half-timbered architecture with museums, cultural events and experiences in nature. At Miltenberg’s marketplace, the Schnatterloch, three historic half-timbered houses in the Stadt Museum present the history of the town and region. The square itself forms an ensemble of half-timbered houses dating from four centuries, arranged around the Renaissance market fountain, built between 1583 and 1589. Anyone interested in the history of the town will find different perspectives here: the exhibitions in the historic houses and the architecture around the fountain.

The Museum Burg Miltenberg offers a different artistic perspective. There, 16 Greek and Russian icons from the 16th to the 19th century are displayed alongside works by contemporary artists. For children and young people, Kunstnetz Miltenberg offers opportunities for cultural and aesthetic education through encounters and working with artists from the Bayerischer Untermain region. The district’s youth culture award is also part of its cultural life: it has been awarded since 1979, alternating annually between the fields of art and music.

Discover Nature and Choose Your Routes

A distinctive natural attraction is the Felsenmeer, a natural monument that formed during the last ice ages, between 2.58 million and 11,700 years ago. For guidance, there is a specific stretch of the town walk: from its starting point at Mildenburg Castle, it leads through the town forest and through the Steintor. After turning at the Steintor, the Felsenmeer is about 600 metres away.

Miltenberg’s town park also has its own distinctive character. It was laid out at the end of the 19th century in the style of an English park and as an arboretum. Today, it includes nearly 150 different species of trees and shrubs. If you would rather combine different themes on one experience trail, “3 im Wald” offers a barefoot nature trail, an art trail and a tree information trail. These activities have different focuses: experiencing nature, art or learning about trees.

Events, Music and Regional Experiences

The Miltenberg District Cultural Weeks take place every year from mid-September, with a varied programme for all ages. They include concerts featuring both classical and contemporary music, as well as events featuring jazz and electronic music. The district’s International Choir Competition is one of the longest-established international choir competitions. Past competitions have repeatedly fostered close personal connections between the visiting choirs and local residents.
