A three-aisled pillar basilica stands on Gotthard. A Benedictine convent was founded there in place of a castle. The two rows of arcades and the decorated impost friezes of today’s church date from the convent—specific details that reveal its history in the building itself. Groups can book guided tours of and inside the Gotthard ruins through the Bavarian Odenwald Information Centre.
The Jesse Altar in Amorsbrunn
During a guided tour of Amorsbrunn Chapel, about two kilometres from the old town, you can see the Jesse Altar, created around 1500. It depicts the family tree of Jesus, from the House of King David, as a tree of life. For art enthusiasts, the subject offers a clear focus: a religious image that can be examined in greater detail during the tour.
Miltenberg as an additional perspective
The wider Miltenberg destination offers further landscape and cultural attractions. Miltenberg District lies between the Odenwald and Spessart and features deeply incised river and stream valleys. In the town of Miltenberg, the Stadt Museum presents local and regional history in three historic half-timbered houses on the market square, the Schnatterloch.
Miltenberg District’s Cultural Weeks also take place every year from mid-September. The programme is aimed at all ages and includes classical and contemporary music as well as jazz and electronic music. The specific events vary from year to year.
