Valmeinier: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The Valmeinier resort extends across two elevations: Valmeinier Villages lies at an altitude of 1,500 m and has an authentic character, while Valmeinier 1800 is all about the mountain experience.

Anyone considering Valmeinier as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Winter sports

The Galibier Thabor ski area extends from Valmeinier to the neighbouring resort of Valloire and includes 160 km of pistes and 90 runs.

The ski area also includes a modular snow park, a ski cross course, the VALKID area and several Easyparks.

Nature and trails

Mont Thabor is a Natura 2000 site with around 30 lakes located at altitudes above 2,000 m.

At 3,178 m, Mont Thabor can be reached from Valmeinier on day trips or multi-day hikes with overnight stops. Valmeinier has marked hiking trails that can be explored independently or accompanied by a guide through protected, unspoilt natural landscapes.

Marmots, chamois and ibex can be found in the protected mountain landscape of Mont Thabor.

Culture and village character

The Chapelle du Mont Thabor, also known as the Chapelle Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs, lies at an altitude of 3,164 m, around 100 m from the 3,178 m summit of Mont Thabor. It is a pilgrimage site where several pilgrimages are organised every summer.

Valmeinier Villages features narrow streets and characteristic adjoining houses built from stones from the valley, with very thick walls.

Food and drink

In summer, the association for the preservation and enhancement of Valmeinier’s heritage works with the tourist office on bread-making workshops and tastings of Côques as part of the “Montagnards” activities programme.

La Ferme du Mont Thabor offers free tours during which visitors can watch the goats being milked. Visitors can also taste goat’s cheese there and take goat’s cheese home with them.

The La Gwape microbrewery operates a bar open to the public in Valmeinier. La Gwape’s beers are made with spring water from Valmeinier and are available in four recipes: blonde (Mountain Pale Ale), blanche (American wheat beer), ambrée (Amber Atale) and India Pale Ale (bitter beer).
