Culture and history

The Saint-Martin-de-Belleville heritage trail is a self-guided walk through the village that conveys the local heritage and the way people used to live in the area. The Notre-Dame-de-la-Vie sanctuary, a 17th-century masterpiece classified as a historic monument, is located on a promontory level with the village of Saint-Marcel and overlooks the Belleville Valley.

The Saint-Martin-de-Belleville church was rebuilt and extended between 1650 and 1750. It is typical of the churches of the Tarentaise and features rich Baroque furnishings behind a plain façade. The Saint-Martin-de-Belleville Museum is housed in a former farmhouse.

Nature and trails

Since the former municipality voluntarily joined the charter of Vanoise National Park in 2015, the former Saint-Martin-de-Belleville sector has belonged to the park's membership area. No part of this sector lies within the park's core zone.

The Route Découverte des villages is an easy hike starting and/or ending in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville and Les Ménuires. It is 7.5 km long and is indicated as taking 4 hours and 30 minutes. The route follows the course of a more than 100-year-old path that once connected the villages of the valley from Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, before the departmental road was built. Guided hikes in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville provide explanations about the mountain environment and the features visible along the route.
