Culture
The main masonry of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral was built in the 11th century. Its 83 walnut choir stalls were completed in 1498 and are attributed to the wood sculptor Pierre Mochet. The cloister was built from 1450 onwards and replaced an older cloister mentioned in a document from 1211. It has been classified as a historic monument since 1899. The cathedral also has a Flamboyant Gothic choir with a ciborium.
A guided tour of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral leads through the choir with its Gothic choir stalls, through the side aisles and chapels, and through the cloister leading to the crypt room. The cloister is located between the cathedral and the canons’ refectory.
Museums
The Musée des Costumes, Arts et Traditions Populaires is located in the former episcopal palace. It presents traditional costumes from the Maurienne, as well as tools and household items from everyday life in the past. The collections also include archaeology, religious art and the history of the House of Savoy. The former bishop’s chapel contains a reconstructed Maurienne home interior illustrating communal living.
The permanent exhibition at the Musée Opinel consists of two rooms. The Musée Opinel is located in the town centre of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. The Route de l'Opinel connects the Musée Opinel in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne with Albiez-le-Vieux and is 16 kilometres long.

Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne railway station is given as the train destination for visiting the Musée Opinel.
