The lakes of Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu are among the 12 fishing areas in Savoie listed in the PDESI and bear the “Famille” label. The two lakes have three floating jetties reserved for anglers, as well as a fixed jetty for people with reduced mobility.

Nature
The marshland surrounding the lakes of Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu is of great cultural and historical value. The lakes were formed by glacial activity when part of the Dent du Chat mountain collapsed after the retreat of the last glaciers.
The Dent du Chat summit, Mont de la Charvaz mountain and Mont du Chat mountain are located in the vicinity of Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu. Mont de Corsuet mountain is also located near Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu.

The Cru Jongieux AOC wine-growing region extends across Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu.
Culture
The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste houses a contemporary work of sacred art that was added to the Savoie departmental register in December 2016. The current Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste was built between 1845 and 1846, replacing a building dating from 1614. Arts en Chœur offers free guided tours of the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste.
The Château de la Forest is located in Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu. The historic site of Abbaye d'Hautecombe is located near Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu, as is the historic site of Le Couvent des Bernardines Belley. In the wider surrounding region of Saint-Jean-de-Chevelu are the Artothèque de Chambéry museum and Château de Grammont castle.
