Culture and History
The Maison du Patrimoine is located in the hamlet of La Pierre. It features a remarkable exhibition of traditional village costumes, as well as the interior of a local home recreated as it looked in the past, with numerous everyday, work-related and agricultural objects.
The Chapelle Notre-Dame des Neiges in Valmaure was built in 1691 and houses two 18th-century paintings by Laurent Dufour.
The Eglise de St Colomban des Villards is neo-Gothic and replaced an older Romanesque church. In 1981, it was severely damaged by the force of an avalanche. Local volunteers, united under the Notre Clocher association, are committed to preserving and restoring the church.
Activities
The Circuit des chapelles – Circuit de St Colomban des Villards walking route starts at the Chef-lieu and passes six chapels in the municipality. The road to the Col du Glandon has already been used 14 times by the Tour de France.
For winter 2025/2026, three facilities were listed in the snow and beginners’ area of the Domaine de Saint-Colomban-des-Villards: the de l’Ourson conveyor belt, the de l’Épinette drag lift and the de Rogemont drag lift.
There are also four snowshoe hikes totalling 30 km, as well as a 15 km walking route.
Getting There
Access is via Exit 26 at Sainte-Marie-de-Cuines/La Chambre. From there, follow the Vallée des Villards and the RD 927.
The Gare de St Avre / La Chambre railway station is 10 km away and provides the rail connection.
