Culture
The Church of Saint Maurice dates back to the 15th century and is included in the “Chemins du baroque” heritage trail. Traditional features of Orelle’s hamlets include washhouses, communal ovens, churches, chapels and stone houses. Chez la Tante is a small ecomuseum that recreates a room from times gone by and opens on request.
La Pierre aux Pieds is a group of rocks bearing engravings from several periods. The Notre Dame des Anges Chapel offers views over the valley. Mass is held there once a year in August. The chapel can be reached on foot via a forest path or by car in summer via the forest track from Arcelin.
Experiences
Orelle Quest is a family adventure for smartphones. Using clues, puzzles and QR codes, visitors explore the village’s hamlets. Along the Sentiers Couleurs du Temps route from Noiray to Crêt du Vlé, there are stations for nature-themed workshops.
Nature
Orelle’s hiking network includes family-friendly walks around the villages, more challenging routes to ridges and high-altitude lakes, as well as excursions to the Barrage de Bissorte and along the Tour du Thabor. Orelle’s hiking trails pass through alpine pastures with marmots and flowering meadows, offering panoramic views of the peaks.
The Barrage de Bissorte offers views of the surrounding mountains and can be reached on foot in about an hour from the car park at Prec. The Natura 2000 site “Alpages du mont Bréquin”, corresponding to the Vanoise Massif zone, lies within Orelle’s municipal territory. The southern part of Orelle’s municipal territory also contains the Natura 2000 site “Landes, prairies et habitats rocheux du massif du mont Thabor”.
Winter
La Trace du Loup is a marked and secured ski touring route starting from Plan Bouchet.
Food and Drink
Espace Caron 3200 has a wine bar offering selected fine wines and a restaurant serving local cuisine.
