Montcel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Montcel lies in a landscape shaped by natural surroundings and mountain scenery: since 1995, the town has been part of the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park. The eastern part on the slopes of Mont Revard consists predominantly of forests and alpine pastures. At Revard, 350 hectares belong to Montcel, including 100 hectares of alpine pastures.

Nature

The route to the Croix des Bergers leads through forests and alpine pastures. Part of the route passes through the protected Tourbière des Creusates wetland, which is designated as a Natura 2000 site; information boards along the Tourbière provide information about this wetland.

Hiking and Cycling

The route to the Croix des Bergers is a very easy 3.6-kilometre out-and-back hike lasting approximately two and a half hours. It starts and ends at the Crolles car park in Montcel.

The Les crêtes du Revard hiking loop also passes through Montcel. It is 9.3 kilometres long, is designed as a circular hike of moderate difficulty and takes approximately four hours to walk. The route leads through alpine pastures, forests and rocky ridges and offers views of Lac du Bourget, Aix-les-Bains, the Dauphiné, the Jura and Mont Blanc. For mountain bike tours, the VTT Bois Brulé route passes through Montcel.

Culture

The Saint-Georges parish church in Montcel was founded as a rural chapel by the religious members of the Saint-Robert priory and probably became a parish church at the end of the 13th century. The present church building was newly constructed between 1844 and 1848.

The Chapelle Saint Robert was consecrated on 20 February 1871 by Cardinal Billiet, the Archbishop of Chambéry. As early as 1867, the residents of Montcel had decided to build the chapel near what was presumably the former site of the Saint Robert priory. During renovation work in 1989, the main façade, made almost entirely of molasse, and the cornerstones of the bell tower were brought back into prominence. The stained-glass windows were created by the glass artist Marie Pierre Delbecque.

Local Life

L'Epicafé combines a grocery shop and a café. It offers regional products, bread, aperitifs, coffee and tea, along with an impressive view.

GAEC de La Cluse produces farmhouse cheese and sells Tome des Bauges and cheese from Revard, including le Crémeuh. Through FACIM, the farm offers tours of the farm and its animals; registration at the Féclaz tourist office is required. In winter, GAEC de La Cluse welcomes visitors to its valley farm in Montcel.

Winter

Porte de Crolles has been one of three access points to the ski area since 1991. The other two are in La Féclaz and Saint-François-de-Sales. The Foyer nordique du Revard Crolles is a cross-country skiing centre in Crolles.
