Montaimont: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Montaimont lies in the heart of the Maurienne Valley, on the right bank of the Arc above the La Chambre basin. The mountain basin of Montaimont is dominated, among others, by Mont du Fût, whose summit reaches 2,822 m. The landscape includes gentle alpine pastures, more challenging mountain terrain, woods and forests, as well as meadows and pastures used for agriculture.

Culture and History

The Notre-Dame de Beaurevers Chapel is protected as a historic monument and is an important Baroque sanctuary. Its furnishings include trompe-l’œil paintings, paintings from the Baroque altarpiece and a painting by Gabriel Dufour from 1683. On Fridays in July and August, the chapel is open to visitors from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The parish church of Montaimont is dedicated to Saint Gras and John the Baptist. In La Pallud stands the Saint Roch Chapel, dedicated to Saint Roch, the patron saint of animals. The Saint Bernard de Menthon Chapel in the village of Le Loup is dedicated to Saint Bernard of Menthon, the patron saint of Alpine residents.

The “De Bonvillard à Beaurevers” route passes through the typical cultural heritage of mountain villages: the listed stops include a bread oven, crosses, an oratory, traditional houses and basins. The route continues to the Notre-Dame de Beaurevers Chapel.

Local Traditions

The most important festival in Montaimont is the Feast of the Assumption, celebrated on 15 August. It is associated with the chapel of Beaurevers, dedicated to the Virgin Mary; the Foire then takes place on 24 August. The festival on 15 August features a traditional costume procession and the local “r’zoules”, also known as bugnes.

Things to Do

Montaimont lies on routes belonging to “La Maurienne – Le plus grand domaine cyclable du monde”. The area around the village also offers snowshoe hikes towards Lac du Loup, to the Sainte-Marguerite plateau and along high-altitude trails as far as Saint François Longchamp.

The Espace nordique du Grand Coin is located between Montaimont and Montpascal; the cross-country ski trailhead is in the village of Bonvillard. Activities include cross-country skiing, sledging and snowshoe hiking. The area has 12 cross-country ski trails covering a total of 40 km, as well as 10 signposted snowshoe routes covering a total of 35 km.

Randonnées Pays'Ânes offers donkey hikes, farm workshops, cow milking, evenings on the alpine pastures and high-altitude hikes around Montaimont and its mountain pastures. These activities are available year-round.

The “De Bonvillard à Montaimont” route runs from the car park and cross-country skiing centre in Bonvillard via Le Loup, Taramur and Pierre Rouge to a point just beyond Montaimont.
