Culture

The Église Saint-André was built in 1676 in the Baroque style and retains a Romanesque bell tower with a bell dating from 1613. It can be visited freely and free of charge every day throughout the year; visitors are asked to remain quiet.

The Musée du patrimoine avancherain is a free museum housed in the former town hall of Les Avanchers-Valmorel. The Oratoire Saint Roch is freely accessible and free of charge every day throughout the year, although the chapel can only be viewed from the outside. The Oratoire Saint Roch was rebuilt next to the piste of the same name after the former oratory was destroyed in 1978/80 during the construction of the Valmorel ski pistes. This also revived the tradition of blessing the herds and alpine pastures; a blessing was held outdoors on 25 August 2012.

The Espace patrimonial et ancien presbytère documents the beginnings of skiing in the valley, including the tradition known as “La bénédiction des skis”. The Four de Lancheverne is still occasionally used for baking bread at village festivals, particularly in early August during the Avanchers festival.

Nature

The Plan d’eau de Malatrait was established as a hiking destination in 2010 and is located about an hour from the Valmorel resort. It can be reached via a path intended for alpine farmers.

Two circular hiking trails run there, offering views of the Col de la Madeleine, Mont Blanc and the Lauzière Massif.

The Valmo'bourricot farm offers summer visits to a smallholding with animals from the mountain region, donkey rides and soap made from the milk of a jenny. The route “En route to the hamlets around Le Morel” begins and ends in Valmorel and passes through Les Avanchers-Valmorel.

Winter Sports

The Grand Domaine de Valmorel covers 3,600 hectares at an altitude of 1,250 to 2,550 metres and offers 165 kilometres of ski pistes. The Valmorel ski area has five designated access points.

Moûtiers-Salins station is the nearest railway station for travelling to Valmorel.
