La Bauche: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature
Above La Bauche rise the wooded slopes of Mont-Beauvoir. Montagne de Lépine is classified as a ZNIEFF because of its botanical and geological importance. The D 921 road crosses La Bauche from north to south and connects Les Echelles with the shores of lac d’Aiguebelette.
Along the western edge of La Bauche, the Morge stream meanders through the plain. Several small watercourses originating on the western slope of Montagne de Lépine flow into it and cross La Bauche from east to west; in total, there are more than ten small streams there.
History
The Church of La Bauche was rebuilt in the 19th century and remains at its historic location, which was already recorded on the Sardinian cadastral map of 1729. The church houses a painting of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, painted by Xavier de Maistre in Pisa in 1828, which was classified as an art object in 1982.
The Château de La Bauche was built in several construction phases by the Perrin family in the 18th century; the first stage was a tower built in 1733. Four crosses stand within the territory of La Bauche, mostly erected at crossroads.
The thermal spring of La Bauche was rediscovered in 1862 by the Sardinian Count Crotti de Castiglione. After the rediscovery of the iron-rich spring in 1862, Édouard Crotti developed the spa business in La Bauche and began marketing bottled water and lozenges. The historic spa at Château de La Bauche was built in 1877.
The former institution of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in La Curriaz is part of La Bauche’s religious heritage. The ruins of former mills can be found at Le Moulin in La Bauche. In 1862, a Gallo-Roman site consisting of two springs was identified in La Bauche.
