History and Culture

The Chapelle Notre-Dame in Montandré houses an 18th-century antependium that is listed as a protected object.

The annual pilgrimage to Montandré takes place on 8 September. During it, pilgrims pray in front of each oratory and then attend an open-air mass near the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Montandré.

The Oratoire Saint Michel in Champessuit was built on the initiative of a Hermillon resident.

The Câbles à foin in Hermillon comprised around twenty hay cableways used to transport “Barillons” from the alpine pastures to the village.

Wine has been cultivated in Hermillon for many centuries.

Paths and Nature

The Voie Romaine leads from Hermillon to the Chapelle de Montandré in around 45 minutes on foot and passes several oratories.

The Chapelle de Montandré lies near the hamlet of Montandré and overlooks Hermillon from an altitude of 850 metres.

There is a hiking route in the Forêt d’Hermillon.

The Voie Romaine leads to a botanical discovery trail and a picnic area.

The Montandré plateau is the only known habitat of Tulipa montisandrei. Two tulip species have been recorded on the Montandré plateau.

Village Life

The Médiathèque – Hermillon is a cultural space in the village centre offering free access to books, CDs, computers and the internet.

The Table d’Orientation in front of the Chapelle de Montandré overlooks the valley and provides information for walkers.

Les trois Glorieuses is a three-day festival held around 8 September that was established in 1960.

The Salon du Livre d'Hermillon is organised by the association LE COLPORTEUR, founded in 1989.

Activities

The Canyon d'Hermillon amont is a canyoning course at the Hermillon site.

The Falaise d'Hermillon is classified by the FFME as a “terrain d’aventure”. It is currently temporarily closed.
