Cohennoz: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Cohennoz is nestled against the Beaufortain Massif and faces the Aravis Massif. In the upper part of the Cohennoz forest, the landscape also includes a marshland area that has been added to the Natura 2000 inventory.
When planning a stay in Cohennoz, the desire to rent a holiday apartment may be a priority.
Nature and Trails
More than 90 kilometres of marked hiking trails of varying difficulty start from Crest-Voland and Cohennoz, leading through forests and alpine meadows. The new Le Bois du Croë adventure trail in Cohennoz has been open to the public since the beginning of this summer. Le Bois du Croë offers games about forest animals and includes an approximately 15-metre-long Himalayan suspension bridge.
In summer, the marshland of the Réserve naturelle régionale de la tourbière des Saisies–Beaufortain–Val d’Arly offers two educational trails and guided visits every afternoon. In winter, the marshland is accessible only on cross-country skis to protect the wildlife.
Sport and Activities
Cohennoz is part of the Crest-Voland Cohennoz ski area, which is connected to Les Saisies and Espace Diamant. The Crest-Voland Cohennoz area has downhill mountain bike trails of varying difficulty, as well as Enduro mountain bike routes accessible by chairlift.
The Cohennoz-FFC Route No. 51 runs mostly through the forest, gradually climbs to the Croix de Varzeron, and then descends towards the village of Cohennoz. Along the way, it offers views of the Aravis and Mont-Charvin.
Culture and History
The church of Cohennoz was built in 1781 in the main village and is dedicated to Saint Peter in Chains. Its white walls feature geometric, symbolic or floral motifs; the vaults are painted red and blue, complemented by numerous 19th-century statues.
The Écomusée de Cohennoz is a small, welcoming museum in the main village of Cohennoz, right next to the town hall. On display are miniature objects that are exact reproductions of tools and everyday items made by schoolchildren around 1890.
The restored Ainoz mill is located on the Nant du Moulin, the natural boundary between the municipalities of Crest-Voland and Cohennoz. It was both a mill and the site of a thriving manufacture of wooden handles. The mill is open for visits; the tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and must be booked through the tourist office.
