Nature
From Aussois, the core zone of Vanoise National Park can be reached by the Grand Jeu chairlift, as well as by car or mountain bike via the dam road to the Plan d’Amont car park. The Plan d’Amont and Plan d’Aval reservoirs are located in relatively unspoilt surroundings on the edge of Vanoise National Park and are considered easily accessible. The Plan d’Aval reservoir is a publicly accessible fishing area with rainbow trout.
Activities
The Aussois alpine ski area offers slopes for all levels of difficulty between 1,500 and 2,700 metres above sea level and faces south. The Monolithe Nordic area offers several trails for walkers and snowshoe hikers from the starting point at La Croix on the outskirts of Aussois.
The hike to the Plateau des Arponts begins on the RD83 from Aussois towards Sardières, at the Plan de la Croix car park. It is a marked 7-kilometre circular route with 400 metres of ascent.
The Via ferrata du Diable comprises seven independent sections, ranging from easy to very difficult. The complete loop covering all seven sections is 3,760 metres long and takes six to eight hours.
The Sentier des sculptures is a land art trail on which Serge Couvert, a sculptor from Aussois, shapes trees.
Culture and History
The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption in the village centre was built in the 12th century and extended and altered in 1648. Its interior is characterised by Baroque features; its rood beam is considered one of the finest in Savoie.
The Esseillon forts can be reached from the village via a footpath or by car to the Fort Victor-Emmanuel car park. In winter, access from Aussois is possible on foot or with snowshoes, as the road is closed. Three of the five Esseillon forts can be visited independently or as part of a guided tour. The Espace des gravures rupestres is located in Fort Victor-Emmanuel on the Esseillon site.
The Espace des gravures rupestres is open free of charge in summer and includes casts, videos and a light cathedral installation. The Parc archéologique des Lozes is located around 2 kilometres outside the village and offers a walk to rocks polished by glaciers bearing prehistoric traces.
The L’Arche d’Oé agro-pastoral museum offers guided tours on the history and development of Aussois, as well as life in the village in earlier times.
Leisure
The La Buidonnière leisure complex includes a building with a swimming pool, sauna and wellness area, a pump track, tennis courts, mini-golf and other leisure facilities.
