Culture
The Chapelle Saint-Michel, known as “de la Correrie”, was part of the monastery of Combe d’Aillon, which was built around 1421 by the Carthusian order. The Chartreuse d’Aillon offers guided tours, exhibitions, workshops and activities for families. An outdoor trail leads along the still-visible remains of the former religious estate.
Nature
The Sentier des orchidées is located at the exit of Aillon-le-Jeune, heading towards Aillons-Margériaz. Along the trail, visitors can discover wild orchids as well as other plants such as black columbine and Carthusian pink. The Sentier des orchidées is accessible year-round; the period from mid-May to the end of June is the most favourable for observing the orchids. The Sentier des orchidées is suitable for a family outing.
The GEO-RANDO des tannes et glacières follows nine key discovery stations, marked in the landscape by placed stones. In the Tanne du Névé section, the Spéléo-Rando provides independent access to the underground world. The Aillons-Margériaz tourist office provides information year-round about activities, hikes, shops, and the cultural and natural heritage of the Aillons-Margériaz resort.
Activities
Aillons-Margériaz 1400 offers marked ski touring routes. For winter circular tours, there are also two easy snowshoeing options starting in Aillon-le-Jeune: Les hameaux de la vallée du Lindar is 4.1 kilometres long, while La Grotte des Fées is 3.1 kilometres long.
Local life
During a visit to the Ferme de la Correrie, visitors can see dairy cows, goats and other farm animals and learn about milking. The Ferme de la Correrie also offers a free, self-guided visit of an authentic Bauges farm.
The Fromagerie du Val d’Aillon produces Tome des Bauges and has a museum area dedicated to the history of local cheeses and the lives of farmers and cheesemakers. By reservation, the Fromagerie du Val d’Aillon offers self-guided and guided tours, as well as cheese-making workshops.
