Culture and History
The Château de la Ferrière was built at the end of the 17th century and incorporates part of the town’s fortifications. Renovations in the 19th century gave the Château de la Ferrière a neo-Renaissance character. It has two round towers, one of which was converted into a viewing point.
The priory of Saint-Médard-en-Forez has been documented in writing since the 13th century. It initially belonged to the priory of Montverdun and was later run by the Benedictines of La Chaise-Dieu Abbey. The town developed around the priory, while fortifications protected the town centre.
