Culture

The Eglise fortifiée is a Romanesque church dating from the 11th century. It preserves a remnant of the fortress of the Counts of Forez from the early 14th century and was built by monks from Cluny. Historically, the former Train de la Loire connected the Belvédère of Commelle-Vernay with the Belvédère of Magneux.

Les Quatre Eléments is a longer hiking trail around Commelle-Vernay with successive viewpoints and panoramas. For 3 km, the trail follows the railway tracks and runs along the Loire above the river. Another hiking trail at the Pôle touristique de Magneux leads through the gentle hills of Commelle-Vernay and runs above the Lac de Villerest.

The Pôle touristique de Magneux features a huge sundial measuring 6.80 m in length and 5 m in height, with steps in the polar style. The Pôle touristique de Magneux also includes a play and sports area for children.

Activities

Belvédère Aventures is an electrically assisted Railbike activity in Commelle-Vernay. It runs for 6.8 km along the Lac de Villerest and uses 3.2 km of a route formerly served by a tourist train. The Mini-golf de Magneux offers an 18-hole course and is approved for competitions.
