Culture
At Briennon marina on the canal connecting Roanne with Digoin lies the Muséo'Parc du Marinier, a leisure park dedicated to inland navigation. The park also has a 12-hole miniature golf course.
The Freycinet péniche La Dhuys, moored at the quay, has been converted into a museum about the lives of boatmen. Briennon's Romanesque church also preserves several historic elements: a bell tower and a choir from the 11th century, as well as a 17th-century altarpiece of the Virgin Mary. Its nave was replaced in 1837 by the present-day nave and side aisles.
By the water
The 56 km Canal de Roanne à Digoin runs through Briennon and has ten locks. On the river, Canoë Loire Aventure offers canoes and kayaks for hire on the Loire near Briennon; a combined option with a return journey by bike on the Véloire is also available.
The Entre Halage et Rivage hiking trail is 5 km long and starts at Briennon marina. Along the route, there are information boards about the canal and the fauna and flora along the banks of the Loire. A 3 km variant of Entre Halage et Rivage leads to the Pont-canal de la Teyssonne aqueduct bridge.
On the way
On leaving Briennon, the Véloire uses an engineering structure and a cycle lane to rejoin the greenway (voie verte) at Pouilly-sous-Charlieu.
The PR30 – Du canal aux pâturages hike follows part of the Canal de Roanne à Digoin and is 15.5 km long.
