Bourg-Argental: Holiday apartments and houses

Culture and history

The church of Bourg-Argental was mainly built during the first half of the 12th century; 1140 is recorded as its year of construction. Its portal, including the side columns, is partially protected as a Monument historique. The classification was made in 1840 by list and additionally by decree of 19 November 1947.

The Espace Louis Bancel is located on the first floor of the Maison du Châtelet, in the heart of Bourg-Argental's medieval old town. Sculptures made of bronze, marble and onyx, as well as sketches and drawings in pencil, pen and charcoal, are on display there. The themed tour explains how a sculpture is created, Louis Bancel's artistic development and his ongoing search for new forms.

Landscape and trails

Bourg-Argental is crossed by the three rivers Déôme, Riotet and Argental. The GR®42 long-distance hiking trail reaches the town centre. In addition, the GR®65 branches off in Bourg-Argental and leads towards Saint-Sauveur-en-Rue.

A special stop on the Sentier d'interprétation de la Tortue is the “Tortue”, with its shell that is several thousand years old. The local landscape also includes the Grande Roseraie of Pépinières Paul Croix. It was created by Jacques Ranchon in 2003, contains more than 20,000 roses in beds with around 130 plants each, and showcases creations by Paul Croix as well as more recent creations by Dominique Croix and Jacques Ranchon.

Market and getting around

The Bourg-Argental market takes place on Thursday and Sunday mornings in the Rue de la Déôme and under the market hall.

The Bourg-Argental tourist office can be reached via the Le Bourg stop on bus route L17; this route was formerly known as TIL 122.
