Hiking and Trails

The Chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle crosses Belmont-de-la-Loire on Stage 4 between Proprières and Le Cergne; the stage is listed as taking 5 hours and covering 19 km. En passant par la Croix Bleue – PR 5 is a 15.5 km circular trail starting in Belmont-de-la-Loire and passing through the arboretum. Along the way, visitors can discover twenty tree species common in the region, as well as other rarer tree species.

Jusqu'au Bout du monde is a 12 km hiking trail awarded the FFR label. The route ends in the Aaron Valley at a lake with facilities. The Belmont 10 km Trail course is an easy trail marked in green, starting at the car park of the Plan d’eau de Belmont-de-la-Loire; changing rooms, showers and sanitary facilities are available there.

Water and Nature

The Base de loisirs du plan d'eau is set in a wooded area around a lake and the Aaron River. It offers fishing opportunities, picnic areas and sports equipment.

At the Belmont-de-la-Loire arboretum, visitors can discover the local flora through various tree species.

Culture and History

The Chapelle Saint-Claude was built in 1632 on a mass grave for plague victims. It contains an 8 m × 2 m fresco depicting the plague epidemics that devastated Lyonnais and Beaujolais in the 17th century.

The Chapelle Saint-Claude can be visited free of charge every day from 1 May to 31 December, by prior reservation; guided and self-guided individual and group visits are available.
