Culture and History
The Church of Saint Blaise is dedicated to Saint Blaise, who is considered the protector of animals; a stained-glass window depicting him is located above the entrance portal. The church was rebuilt between 1827 and 1833 and retains its 17th-century bell tower.
The ruins of the Saint-Hugon forges preserve an iron-industry site founded about five centuries ago by Carthusian monks. The Pont du Diable connects La Chapelle-du-Bard with Arvillard. The bridge is 34 metres high and 30 metres long. Its historical significance is linked to the forges and the former border between Savoy and France; the structure also includes an ornate stone boundary marker.
Nature and Trails
The Bens mountain stream forms the boundary between La Chapelle-du-Bard and Arvillard in Savoy. The Circuit des coteaux runs from Le Moutaret to La Chapelle-du-Bard. The moderately difficult hiking trail is 10 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 400 metres. It is signposted with yellow-and-red GRP markings and yellow PR markings.
Winter and Horses
Half of the Le Collet d’Allevard ski area is located within the territory of La Chapelle-du-Bard. During the 2025/2026 winter season, it offers 35 kilometres of ski slopes, 27 pistes and 11 ski lifts.
Le Manège Enchanté offers two-hour rides, half-day rides, full-day rides or an entire weekend ride to a mountain hut. The rides in the Belledonne mountain range are accompanied by a state-qualified riding instructor. Montgaren Farm is dedicated to discovering nature and the mid-altitude mountains through trail riding.
Agriculture and Cheese
Ferme de la Grangette raises Abondance and Montbéliarde cattle according to organic principles and produces several types of cheese, including Tomme de Belledonne, Montgaren and Raclette.
Ferme de la Grangette offers bookable, guided farm tours for children, adults, school classes and other groups. During educational visits, children can learn about the lives of dairy cows and pigs, their care and feeding, various agricultural activities, the processing of milk into cheese, cheese maturation and a tasting of the products.
